KCL Admissions: A Guide for Hong Kong Students
KCL Admissions: A Guide for Hong Kong Students
King's College London — on the Strand, by the Thames — is the single most frequent UK destination on our students' offer lists in the most recent cycle, and a particular strength for law, medicine, politics, international relations and the humanities. This guide explains how KCL admissions work and what a competitive application looks like, alongside our guides to UCL and Imperial.

How KCL admissions work
KCL admits through UCAS: one personal statement across your five UK choices, with the equal-consideration deadline in late January — except medicine, dentistry and Oxbridge-parallel applications, which close in mid-October. Law applicants should also plan for the LNAT admissions test, which KCL requires; medicine uses the UCAT. Most other courses decide without an interview, on predicted grades, reference and personal statement.
Typical IB offers at KCL in recent years have clustered around 35-38 points, rising higher for the most competitive programmes such as law and medicine. As with all UK offers, most are conditional on your final summer results.
What makes a KCL application competitive
Subject evidence over general polish. KCL admissions tutors read for genuine engagement with the course — the politics applicant who can discuss what they have read, the budding lawyer who has thought about the law beyond the classroom. Course-relevant HL subjects and super-curricular reading matter more than a long activities list.
Predicted grades set the ceiling. Because most KCL courses decide without interview, predictions do the heavy lifting. Students targeting 35-38+ offers should be performing at that level well before their school issues predictions — our IB tutors support exactly that stage.
Tests for law and medicine. LNAT and UCAT results arrive early in the cycle and reward months of structured preparation. We plan test timelines alongside the UCAS calendar so nothing collides with school exams.
