Imperial College London Admissions: A Guide for Hong Kong Students
Imperial College London Admissions: A Guide for Hong Kong Students
Imperial College London is the UK's great STEM specialist — engineering, computing, medicine, natural sciences and business, in South Kensington. For Hong Kong students set on a technical course, it is often the academic equal of Oxbridge, with admissions to match: some departments test, some interview, all demand top grades. This guide explains how it works, with our students' results. See also our guides to Oxford and Cambridge.

Our track record at Imperial
Imperial is one of the steadiest performers across our recent cycles — offers in every single one of the last six years, as published on our results page:
| Admissions cycle | Imperial offers reported by our students |
|---|---|
| 2025-2026 | 7 |
| 2024-2025 | 9 |
| 2023-2024 | 2 |
| 2022-2023 | 7 |
| 2021-2022 | 4 |
| 2020-2021 | 6 |

How Imperial admissions work
Imperial admits through UCAS. Medicine closes in mid-October alongside Oxbridge; most other courses follow the late-January equal-consideration deadline. The wrinkles are departmental: computing and mathematics have used admissions tests in recent cycles, engineering and medicine interview, and requirements differ course by course — so the first step is always the specific course page, not general advice.
Typical IB offers at Imperial in recent years have sat at 38-42 points, with 6s and 7s in relevant Higher Level subjects — mathematics and the sciences for engineering and computing, for instance. Offers are conditional, so final summer results decide the place.
What makes an Imperial application competitive
Mathematical depth, proven not claimed. Imperial reads for evidence of technical appetite: relevant HL subjects at the top grades, competition or project work, and a personal statement that talks about the discipline rather than about yourself.
Preparation for departmental extras. Where a department tests or interviews, the format is known and trainable. We prepare students for admissions tests and technical interviews with subject-specialist tutors and mock sessions.
Early grade trajectory. Like every selective UK university, Imperial decides on predicted grades — so the work starts in the first Diploma or A-level year, not in the application month. Our IB tutors build the grades side of the profile.
Imperial within a wider list
Imperial typically sits alongside Oxbridge, UCL or Edinburgh in an engineering or science UCAS list, and many of our students pair it with US applications — where "engineering school" means something structurally different. Our UK/US acceptance guide maps the two systems, and our university admission consultants can build the list around your child.
Quantum Prep is an education consultancy that focuses on placing their students at the best colleges or universities. We boast of diverse results. In addition to the traditional rap sheet of prestigious university acceptances, our consultants like to highlight the different paths they have sent students on. All of our students are different; we are proud of our one-on-one tailored approach towards university counselling.
