Arthur Thompson

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Arthur pursued his passion for language by studying abroad in Chongqing during his junior year of high school. He earned a BA in Chinese and Linguistics from SOAS, University of London, and completed his MPhil at the University of Cambridge, graduating with a Distinction in 2015. Arthur received his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Hong Kong in 2019, where he published over ten research papers and gained extensive teaching experience. Academics aside, Arthur is an avid reader and writer. Besides his native English, Arthur also speaks Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, and is learning Danish as well as Hong Kong Sign Language.

With more than seven years of mentoring students, Arthur specializes in developing personalized learning strategies that address individual needs. He believes that improving one’s skills in English literature and language should be immersive and engaging, drawing on and relating to students’ personal experiences. His compassionate approach ensures that students feel supported as they navigate essay writing, exam preparation, and other assessments. Arthur is dedicated to fostering confidence in his students, preparing them for academic success and effective communication in a globalized world.
