Jamie Blake

Jamie grew up in the UK, studying the A-Level curriculum before heading to the University of Reading to pursue an MEng in Cybernetics. Some of his projects involved creating a neural network utilising genetic algorithms and particle swarm optimisation to predict football results, for which he received a first-class classification. He also worked on a table tennis robot for his master’s team project, focusing on trajectory planning for the robotic arm. His initial PhD work involved designing and conducting experiments to record the EEG signals of participants while they tracked an on-screen stimulus using a haptic interface. 

He regularly tutored throughout his university life, working also as a learning support to a student with SEN. While working for the university during his PhD studies, he assisted lecturers in various robotics, coding, and engineering laboratories. His first external teaching role took him to Japan, where he taught for a year, before he moved to Hong Kong. Though teaching was originally meant to be a break from the university career path, he fell in love with the role and continued to teach a range of subjects with a STEM focus for almost ten years. While teaching, he also managed a learning centre, helping students with a range of private and public examinations as well as private school admissions.

Jamie now focuses more on his passion for teaching and academic mentoring. He is a patient and dedicated tutor who works with all abilities.
